Mr. Jakob GILLE

Mr. Jakob Gille is a sustainability strategist at the Swedish Armed Forces Headquarters. He works at the Joint Sustainability Section under the newly formed Total Defence Department. He deals with sustainable development in the areas of energy management, infrastructure and deployed camps, pollution and polluted areas particularly in regard to PFOA/PFOS/PFAS and future fuel policy.
Before joining the Joint Sustainability Section Mr. J. Gille worked for the SwAF Infrastructure Department. Mr. J. Gille who holds a Master’s degree in Architecture worked from 2009 until 2017 as a Defence Architect in charge of SwAF spatial planning, the efficient use of military infrastructure and camp development.
Originally trained as a naval officer, presently a Lieutenant Commander in the naval reserve, he has had a number of military assignments before, within and in parallel to his work at SwAF HQ. Of particular interest for the present conference are the lessons learned in 2015 from when he was deployed, by the Infrastructure department, as the fortifications officer of the Swedish ISR Task Force in the UN MINUSMA mission at Camp Nobel in Timbuktu, Mali.
Mr. J. Gille is also one of the first 15 newly graduated “Defence Energy Mangers” appointed by the European Defence Agency. The training became an important precursor to the decision of providing the entire Swedish Armed Forces with a specially developed common Energy Management Tool and orders to apply it in the 2018 General Task Order of the Swedish Armed Forces.
